Privacy notice
You can search and use Appeal Search without giving us any personal details. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics or advertising.

Who we are
Appeal Search (appealsearch.net) is responsible for any personal data handled through this site. Contact details for privacy questions will be added to this page shortly.
What we collect
- Report emails. If you ask us to email a report, we use your name and email address only to send that report. (Not yet active: in this prototype nothing is sent or stored.) Before this service starts, this notice will say which email provider is used and how long requests are kept.
- Your report list and saved searches are kept in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us, and you can clear them at any time from the report page or your browser settings.
- Server logs. The server that hosts the site records basic technical details of each request (IP address, page requested, date and time, browser type). Our hosting provider keeps these for a limited period to run and secure the service.
Services that load content into your browser
Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) supplies the typefaces, so it receives your IP address and browser details. See Google’s privacy policy.
Personal data in appeal decisions
Appeal decisions are public documents published by the Planning Inspectorate. We do not store the names of appellants, agents or case officers as separate fields. Decision letters are reproduced as published and can name the appellant; if you think a page shows personal information about you that should not be there, contact us and we will review it promptly.
Lawful basis and your rights
Where we handle personal data, we rely on our legitimate interests in running a secure public website, and on your request when you ask us to email a report. Under UK data protection law you can ask for access to your data, and ask for it to be corrected or erased. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
